UPDATE: The shelter in place order has been lifted at Santa Teresa High School, according to a Gadsden school district spokesman.
The order was lifted at around 3:10 p.m.
According to the Dona Ana County Sheriff Office, a small group of people were shooting guns in the desert east of Pete Domenici Highway in Santa Teresa, New Mexico.
A deputy heard the shots being fired and began to investigate.
ABC-7 has confirmed a 21-year-old was apart of that group, off roading near that area.
No charges are expected to be made.
Original story: The Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office has confirmed reports that shots were fired about three-quarters of a mile east of the Pete Domenici Highway in Santa Teresa.
Santa Teresa High School is under a shelter in place order as of about 2:45 p.m., according to a Gadsden school district spokesman.
The area around the highway is reportedly being taped off. Doña Ana County Sheriff's deputies are on the scene. We also have reports that Sunland Park police and New Mexico State Police have responded.
