El Paso native deputy who died in line of duty is laid to rest

EL PASO, Texas - Funeral services were held Tuesday for Carlos Ramirez, the Kendall County Sheriff's Deputy who was struck and killed while conducting a traffic stop near San Antonio on July 2.

The El Paso native and Burges High School graduate was returned to El Paso last Thursday. The El Paso police honor guard provided an escort to Mount Carmel Funeral Home.

Visitation was held Tuesday morning at Mount Carmel along with a Catholic service. Afterwards, a funeral procession took Ramirez to Ft. Bliss National Cemetery for an afternoon burial. (Watch the procession in the video plater below.)

Ramirez was a U.S. Army Reserve veteran and had served for three years as a Kendall County deputy, with his fellow deputies calling him "Smiley" because of his infectious smile.

Also known for his love of family, Ramirez is survived by his wife and two young children.
