UTEP left guard Will Hernandez has been named to the Outland Trophy watch list ahead of the 2017 college football season.
Hernandez, a native of Las Vegas, has started 37 career games for the Miners. In those 37 games, he has anchored a line that has only give up 47 sacks (1.3 per game).
Hernandez was named to the AP All-America Second Team after an incredible 2016 campaign in which he did not give up a sack or a quarterback hurry.
Pro Football Focus also named Hernandez the second-best overall returning player this season. He only trailed Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield in that regard.
Coincidentally, UTEP and Oklahoma will meet at the beginning of the 2017 season on Sept. 2 in Norman, Okla.
The Outland Trophy award winner will be named on Dec. 7 at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show airing on ESPN.
