NMSU defeats in-state rival New Mexico 30-28

NMSU defeats New Mexico

NMSU football holds off UNM

Albuquerque, NM -    There's no better feeling than beating your rival, and that's exactly what the New Mexico State Aggies did Saturday night in Albuquerque.

NMSU making the trip up the I-25 to take on the New Mexico Lobos.

Just like they did last year in Las Cruces, the Aggies once again came away with a win over the Lobos by a final of 30-28.

NMSU came out swinging early in the 1st quarter when Aggie QB Tyler Rogers connected on a 30 yard TD pass to OJ Clark.

However, the Aggies would botch the extra point when the holder fumbled the ball that was then returned for a New Mexico 2-point conversion.

That made it 6-2 early in the first.

But the botched extra point didn't phase the Aggies.

Rogers would later connect on an 81 yard TD pass to extend the Aggies' lead to 13 to 2.

The Lobos would play from behind the entire night, but they would rally in the 4th quarter.

Down 30-22 late in the 4th, New Mexico's QB Tevaka Tuioti would connect with Jay Griffin IV for a 19 yard touchdown pass to pull within two.

Lobos just needed a two point conversion to tie, but the Aggies' defense would break up a passing attempt by Tuioti to secure the victory.

NMSU improves to 1-1 on the year.

The Aggies' home opener is next Saturday night against Troy University.
