EL PASO, Texas -

A former Del Valle quarterback could be making his first career collegiate start this weekend.

According to The Denver Post, Colorado redshirt freshman quarterback Steven Montez is taking first team reps as the Buffaloes prepare to play at Oregon on Saturday.

Montez last started at quarterback at Del Valle in 2014.

Colorado's starting quarterback, Sefo Liufau, injured his ankle in the third quarter of the Michigan game last Saturday and Montez came in to replace him.

On Monday, Colorado head coach Mike MacIntyre called Liufau's status uncertain for Saturday's game but has full confidence in Montez's ability to step in.

"Steven Montez had a great spring and a good fall and he's played in all three games now," MacIntyre told The Denver Post. "So he'll be ready to roll. I feel good about Steven's capabilities. Now he's got to do it in the game."

This season, Montez is 6-of-17 passing for 117 yards and two touchdowns.
