The El Paso Chihuahuas loaded the bases in the top of the ninth inning Wednesday, but did not score and lost to the Iowa Cubs 3-1 at Principal Park in Des Moines. After Iowa closer Blake Parker got two quick outs, the Chihuahuas loaded the bases on a single by Jake Lemmerman, a pinch-hit single by Jeff Francoeur and a walk by Alex Castellanos. Jonathan Galvez then flied to right field, ending the game.

El Paso’s lone run came on an RBI double by Brooks Conrad with two outs in the eighth inning. Tim Sexton and Keyvius Sampson pitched scoreless late outings out of the El Paso bullpen.
