Yes, the New York Yankees have hit just .235 with runners in scoring position this season. And they are extremely reliant on the home run.

But that hasn't stopped them from closing in on a major league record with an impressive offensive streak.

With a four-run first inning in a 6-0 win Wednesday over Toronto, the Yanks became just the second team in the live ball era (since 1920) to score at least three runs in 42 consecutive games. The 1994 Indians hold the record of 48 straight.

"It's amazing," Joe Girardi told the New York Daily News. "I've been really pleased with how it's been shared. It hasn't been two guys doing all the work. We've got contributions from so many different people, and that's really pleasing to me because it makes it so difficult to get through our lineup. And I think it wears on pitchers.

"I know we're a club that doesn't manufacture runs, but that's who we are and that's how we score runs."

Mark Teixeira belted a two-run homer and Robinson Cano extended his hitting streak to 21 games Wednesday, but the Yanks also continue to get production from a number of role players. Andruw Jones, who has platooned with Raul Ibanez in left since Brett Gardner was injured in mid-April, and reserve outfielder Dewayne Wise combined for three RBI as the AL East-leading Yankees improved to 57-34.

"The depth is the most important thing," Teixeira said. "If you rely on one or two guys to carry your team, you're not going to be able to score runs like that consistently.

"But one through nine we can get the job done ... and one through 25 we have everybody making contributions. That's what it takes to win."
