Wilson's baseball agent, Mark Rodgers, told Jon Morosi of Fox Sports that Russell will appear at the club's camp in Surprise, Ariz., but did not say when or what he will do there. Spring training opens later this month.
Wilson was acquired by the Texas Rangers in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 draft in December. The club spent $12,000 to attain his rights from the Colorado Rockies.
When the Rangers got Wilson, assistant general manager A.J. Preller said "the biggest thing that intrigued us on Russell from afar is the makeup, the way he goes about his business, the professionalism, the competitor, the message we try to preach throughout our organization, for us to at least have that as part of our organization."
Wilson, fresh after winning Sunday's Super Bowl, is not likely to pursue a professional baseball career. He batted .238 in parts of two minor league seasons.
