Oilers' Gagner out with broken jaw
Center struck by a high-stick from Canucks forward
Edmonton Oilers center Sam Gagner is out indefinitely after suffering a broken jaw in a preseason game on Saturday, the team said Sunday.
Gagner was struck by a high-stick from Vancouver Canucks forward Zach Kassian during a collision against the boards. Kassian received a double minor as a result. Gagner also lost some teeth on the play.
Gagner had 14 goals and 24 assists in 48 games last season.
Gagner's absence presents problems at center for the Oilers. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is still recovering from April shoulder surgery.
Taylor Hall is a winger already who has been playing center in the preseason.
