There are five days remaining before the 2014 Daytona 500; hence, the number for today is:
5: The starting position of Richard Petty in the 1971 Daytona 500. That's significant because it's the only time the season-opening Great American Race has been won from the fifth spot on the grid. Accordingly, it might be advisable for a driver to avoid finishing second in the first 150-mile qualifying race in Thursday night's Budweiser Duel at Daytona. Why? Because the second-place finisher in that race will earn the fifth starting position, and so far, it's taken a Richard Petty to win from that spot.
