Knee takes Bode Miller out of slalom
Miller won bronze in men's super-G alpine skiing race
A bronze will have to do for five-time Olympian Bode Miller at Sochi.
Miller will not ski in what would have been his final event at the 2014 Winter Olympics -- Saturday's alpine slalom -- because of swelling around one of his knees, according to U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association spokesman Doug Haney.
Miller, who won a bronze medal in the men's super-G alpine skiing race Sunday, finished 20th in Wednesday's giant slalom -- 2.53 seconds behind gold medalist and fellow American Ted Ligety.
Miller has five Olympic medals in his career. He had one gold -- in the super combined at the 2010 Vancouver games. He's had four world championships, most recently in the downhill and super-G events in 2005.
