EL PASO, Texas -

Guillermo "Willie" Gandara, Sr. will appear before Judge Frank Montalvo at 10 a.m. Thursday for sentencing.

The former mayor of Socorro and former board trustee for the Socorro Independent School District pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud in July, in a deal with prosecutors.

He faces a maximum of up to three and a half years in prison, set as part of the plea agreement.

Federal investigators accused Gandara of accepting a $1,000 bribe from Access Healthsource in exchange for a vote in favor of Access to be the SISD's insurance provider when he was a trustee.

ABC 7 will update with the latest as the sentencing hearing happens later today.
