EL PASO, Texas - The massive GO10 freeway project in West El Paso is halfway done and could be completed slightly ahead of schedule, said TxDOT spokeswoman Jennifer Wright.
The four-year project is expected to be completed by April of 2019, Wright said.
Friday September 15, 2017, Executive Center Boulevard will be closed from I-10 all the way down to Paisano. The closures begins at 9 p.m. and will continue until 5 p.m. Saturday.
TxDOT said the closure will allow crews to begin working on the Border West Expressway Interchange. The interchange will include main lanes flowing under executive lanes, which crews will create by building bridges on both sides as well as on-ramps and exit ramps.
Many drivers on the west side will have noticed several projects underway on I-10, including two new overpasses at Sunland Park and Resler. According to TxDOT, the new overpasses will "help reduce the daily traffic jams we see there." The overpasses will take traffic onto the new collector/distributor lanes rather the main lanes, reducing the friction of merging traffic on the main lanes, according to Wright.
TxDOT released the following statement: "We continue to be mindful of our public and try to limit closures to nighttime and off-peak hours. However, there will be times when extended lane closures cannot be avoided, such as the upcoming eastbound left lane closure of I-10 every day next week from Mesa all the way to Executive, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. That will not be convenient for drivers, and they can expect slower than normal traffic in the area."
