LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -

In remembrance of the attacks on 9/11, the student body from Onate High School gathered around as flags were raised this morning.

Ashton Gregory, a Navy ROTC-Cadet Chief Petty Officer, spoke briefly in respect of the tragedy after the Onate Band played the national anthem.

Gregory addressed the students and reminded them to never forget the attacks. "We want to learn from the past and make sure it doesn't happen again. And do I think us knowing this happened 15 years ago will hopefully stop things from happening in the future like this again," Gregory said.

The speech was emotional for her as she reflected on that day. She said, "On a clear sunny day in September 2001, Al Quaeda terrorists aboard three hijacked passenger planes carried out a coordinated suicide attack against the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington D.C. killing everyone on board the planes and nearly three thousand people on the ground."
