Police: Man tries to pay water bill with cocaine
Instead of a check, Florida man slips clerk envelope containing drugs
Police in Florida are looking for a man they say tried to pay his water bill with cocaine.
The man walked into the water department office in Deltona on Monday and handed the clerk an envelope that contained a small amount of white powder, according to the West Volusia Beacon News Online.
Employees had to be evacuated so authorities from the sheriff's office and two fire departments could analyze the substance.
The powder was later determined to be cocaine, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported.
"The clerk (at the counter) said she had never seen the man before," Volusia County Sheriff's Department spokesman Brandon Haught told the News-Journal. "He didn’t say anything to her, he just handed her the envelope and walked out."
