EL PASO, Texas - UTEP officials announced Tuesday that boy band One Direction will play at the Sun Bowl on Sept. 19 as part of its "Where We Are 2014" stadium tour.
"Baby, you light up my world like nobody else," go the lyrics to one of their songs. "The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed."
When they land in the Sun City, they'll have all the hair-flipping their cute little hearts can handle -- and likely more than they bargained for.
"There's no age limit," said fan Brittney Collins, 18.
Collins said she once sat on her computer for seven hours straight, watching a One Direction concert -- without a bathroom break. On Tuesday she spent two hours trying to order $500 VIP tickets online, in hopes of touching her favorite band member.
"Harry Styles," she said. "What kind of question is that?"
"Honestly, they've just like taken over my life," said one 15-year-old girl at Fountains at Farah on Tuesday. "Like, I literally stalk them."
Local YouTube pleas for a Sun Bowl concert abound. And El Paso is not unique. Central Park was a madhouse Tuesday during the group's performance on "Good Morning America."
"I have never seen anything like this," said one reporter. "The ground is shaking."
"Testament to how amazing our fans are," said band member Louis Tomlinson.
George Stephanopoulos even admitted that his daughters have bought some of the band's 35 million records sold worldwide.
"Their new album, an instant No. 1 in 97 countries," he said Tuesday during World News.
UTEP officials said when the venue hosted *NSYNC in 2001, they sold 38,000 tickets. They expect about the same this time around, with ticket revenues approaching $4 million.
"Even if I don't get tickets, like, I will make sure I get tickets, but even not, I'll stalk them all over El Paso while they're here," Collins said. "I will wait in the parking lot of UTEP just to hear the concert. Like, anything -- I will be there."
Tickets go on sale to the general public Dec. 7. But Citi cardmembers can start scooping them up Nov. 26. Seats range from $39.50 to $99.50.
