Two Las Cruces schools placed on lockdown after police activity

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Two Las Cruces elementary schools were placed on lockdown Thursday morning because of police activity in the area, a spokeswoman for the district confirmed.

The lockdown on Conlee and University Hills Elementary Schools has since been lifted, a police spokesman confirmed.

Police detained a man near Corbett Drive and Locust Street, said Dan Trujillo, a spokesman for the police department.

No other information was immediately available. Police are still investigating the incident.
