NM Attorney General files lawsuit against Trump to preserve DACA

ALBUQUERQUE - New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas joined 16 other Attorneys General in filing a lawsuit to protect  Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals or DACA grantees in the state of New Mexico and across the United States.

The lawsuit was filed this afternoon in the federal court in the Eastern District of New York.

The suit alleges the Trump Administration has violated the Equal Protection clause of the Constitution by discriminating against Dreamers of Mexican origin and violated Due Process rights. It also claims they have harmed residents, institutions, and economies across the country. Dreamers of Mexican origin make up 78 percent of DACA recipients.

Attorney General says he "filed the suit against Trump and his administration to protect DACA because Dreamers are just an American as First Lady Melania Trump" adding "President Trump cannot continue compromising the safety of our communities and our nation, or putting the security of thousands of New Mexicans who contribute to our classrooms, public safety and economy at risk.”
