Las Cruces Police have released the name of the 84-year-old killed in traffic collision last week.

Police have identified her as Cuca Gilliland of Las Cruces.

Police say that at around 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 28, Gilliland was driving a 1996 Toyota Avalon when she was leaving the Arroyo Plaza parking lot at 2001 E. Lohman Ave.

Investigators say they believe Gilliland briefly entered Lohman heading westbound but then attempted a U-turn and her vehicle was struck broadside, on the driver's side.

She was struck by a westbound 2005 Nissan Altima driven by 30-year-old Toni Fry.

Gilliland was rushed to MountainView Regional Medical Center but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival and Fry was not seriously injured in the crash.

Police say alcohol and speed are not considered to be contributing factors in the crash and both drivers were believed to be wearing seatbelts.

No citations were issued.
