LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -

City Council selected Stuart Ed as the new city manager Monday.

After careful deliberation, Ed was selected to replace Robert Garza, who retired earlier this year.

"The City Council and I are very pleased and confident with the selection of Stuart Ed as the new city manager," Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagishima said. "He brings a wealth of diverse professional experience that will help Las Cruces continue in the positive direction the council has established. We believe he is a good fit for the council and the community, and we look forward to working with him."

Ed is an El Paso native who previously served as president/CEO of Goodwill Industries of El Paso and worked for the City of El Paso Mass Transit Department.

Ed's start date and contract will be determined after city council's meeting on October 3rd.

As city manager, Ed will oversee 1,366 full-time employees. He is also be responsible for the cities $374.5 million annual budget.

Ed received his masters degree in Public Administration from NMSU and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Arizona.

He beat out candidate Daniel Biles from Alabama and David Dollahon, who currently serves as assistant Las Cruces city manager/chief administrative officer.
