The El Paso community is coming together to raise funds for the medical expenses of City Representative Alexsandra Annello's husband, Alberto Halpern.
The couple were involved in a head-on crash near Marfa in June, just two days after they were married.
Halpern, who is a senior administrative assistant for County Commissioner David Stout, was seriously injured in the crash. Stout told ABC-7 that Halpern had two broken legs, a broken pelvis, a broken back, a lacerated spleen, a punctured lung, and was bleeding in his brain.
But the community is hoping to help made the road to recovery much smoother for the couple with a fundraiser and silent auction.
It will be held Friday, July 21 at Tin Man at Montecillo on Mesa Road at 4:30 p.m.
The silent auction will include art from local artists and nights in Faxonia and El Cosmico, both of which are in Marfa.
Organizers of the event suggest guests bring a $5 donation at the door.
For those who cannot attend the event, there are other ways to donate. Marfa National Bank has set up The Alberto Halpern Medical Fund accepting direct donations.
