YISD students win big at chess championship

ARLINGTON, Texas - Two YISD students won big at the 2017 North-Central Scholastic Chess Championship in Arlington, Texas this weekend.

Anneliese Garcia, a third grader at Vista Hills Elementary School, placed 8th in the Individual Trophy category at the championship.

Nikolaus Garcia, a student at Eastwood Middle School, is the regional champion for District 4 in the middle school division. He won 15th place in the Individual Trophy category at the championship.

The two are the only students representing the Ysleta Independent School District.
