EL PASO, Texas - The Young Women's STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy held a camp to give girls a glimpse of what they can expect from their new school ahead of the first day.
Principal Cynthia Ontiveros said the school, in the El Paso Independent School District, made sure it had enough staff and renovations to "reflect a 21st century classroom environment."
"All of our students are very excited about the STEAM concept," said Ontiveros. "While some may not know what their goal is in the future. I know that we're going to be able to influence that and expose them to different career opportunities."
In case you were wondering, STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
Kirsten Moran,13, is a student going into the seventh grade. She said she aspires to be a marine biologist, and the Young Women's Academy will help her achieve her goal.
"The thing that made me want to come here is the fact that it's going to be all girls," said Moran. "I feel like we're going to be a team together. "
