El Paso Police arrested a 25-year-old woman and charged her with criminal attempted murder after she allegedly tried to stab her mom.
At about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to a home in the 6100 block of Quail in Northeast where they found Jennifer Alvarado, nude and covered in blood. She was taken into custody and police found her mother, 56-year-old Barbara Herrera on the ground outside the home with multiple stab wounds.
Alvarado told police she was trying to kill her mother because she was "evil and possessed by the devil.”
Alvarado was placed under arrest and transported to Sierra Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries she sustained during the incident.
Herrera was transported to University Medical Center and was last reported to be in serious but stable condition.
Sources close to Alvarado, who wish to remain anonymous, tell ABC-7 that Alvarado was acting "abnormally" in the past few weeks. They say this abnormal behavior led her family to have Alvarado committed to a local hospital last Sunday for what was supposed to be a period of 72 hours. However, sources tell ABC-7 that Alvarado was released at 1 a.m. Monday morning instead of the full 72 hours.
Alvarado has been charged with Criminal Attempted Murder and was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. Bond was set at $200,000.00
