EL PASO, Texas - The Burges Mustangs live one more day. They beat out Hereford Friday evening in the 4A Division II State Playoffs in Midland.

It was the first time the schools met since 1975.

The Mustangs were the first ones to change the scoreboard, and they stayed on top to end 35 to 28 over Hereford.

Burges was one of four teams to compete in the state playoffs Friday in the Permian Basin.

The first game for a borderland team was at 1 p.m. El Paso time, when the Andress Eagles faced Monterey Lubbock in Odessa.

The Eagles lost 21-18, scoring their last touchdown with less than 2 minutes to the final whistle.

Andress tried to win with their passing game, but could not stop Monterey's running game.

Almost at the same time, the Franklin Cougars were going up against the Arlington-Bowie team in Midland.

The Cougars fell 31-14 against the Volunteers.

Also Friday evening, Horizon was beat by Wolfforth Frenship 42-14.
