Editor's Note: Below is the text of attorney Joe Spencer's intent to resign letter to El Paso County Judge Veronica Escobar on behalf of his client, Guillermo "Willie" Gandara Jr.

February 28, 2012

Dear Honorable Judge Veronica Escobar,

On behalf of Mr. Gandara, we regret to inform you that he is resigning from his position as County Commissioner Precinct Three.

Mr. Gandara has concluded that because of recent events it would be in the best interest of his constituents and the citizenry of El Paso County to resign from public office.

Mr. Gandara regrets deeply any injuries that may have been done in the course of events that led to this decision. To those who have stood with him during these past difficult times, to his family, his friends, to many others who joined in supporting him, he is eternally grateful.

Mr. Gandara shall leave this office with regret, but with gratitude for the privilege of serving as your County Commissioner. These years have been a momentous time in the history of our community and our country. They have been a time of achievement in which we can all be proud, achievements that represent the shared efforts of Commissioners Court, the city and the people.

But the challenges ahead are equally great, and they, too, will require the support and the efforts of Commissioners Court and the people working in cooperation with each other.

Therefore, Mr. Gandara shall resign as County Commissioner Precinct Three effective immediately. By taking this action, he hopes that he will have hastened the start of that process of healing which is so desperately needed in this community.

Sincerely,

Joe A. Spencer
