EL PASO, Texas -

A police cruiser was hit by a car Saturday evening in east central El Paso, according to the El Paso Police Department.

The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. on the 5600 Block of Alameda Avenue. Officials said a dark colored sedan that was traveling east on Alameda Avenue made a north bound turn onto Glenwood Street and failed to yield the right of way to the police cruiser. The police car swerved to avoid the sedan and hit a fence of a mechanic shop as well as another vehicle.

Two officers were taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The accident triggered a chain-reaction that ended with three other vehicles being struck in the shops parking lot.

Police said the sedan fled the scene.
