A horseplayer at Sunland Park in New Mexico invested $96 into the Hollywood Park pick six on Saturday and scored one of the biggest pick-six payoffs in track history, according to the Daily Racing Form.
A ticket that singled Cute N Sassy ($18.20) in race 7 and May Day Rose ($7) in race 10 produced a major payoff of $733,186.40, the 10th-highest pick six at Hollywood.
The bettor, from El Paso, was described by Sunland officials as a "regular" and was chasing a two-day carryover of $236,615. An additional $929,544 was wagered Saturday. The bettor's winning ticket (3x1x4x2x1x2) included debut winner Majestic City ($4) in race 6, followed by the creative single of Cute N Sassy ($18.20) in race 7.
His four horses in race 8 included debut winner L.A. Weekend ($53.40); two horses in race 9 included Mensa Heat ($8.40). May Day Rose ($7) was a single in the Grade 3 Railbird; the bettor used two horses in race 11, including Titian ($17).
Sunland officials said the ticket was cashed Saturday night. In addition to seven consolation payoffs, each worth $2,800.20, the bettor's gross haul was $752,787.80. Federal withholding was $183,296, and state withholding was $43,991. The net score for the horseplayer, who requested anonymity, was $525,500.80.
Sunland recently has become a gateway to greatness. Mine That Bird prepped at Sunland before winning the 2009 Kentucky Derby; Plum Pretty won the Sunland Oaks this spring and followed with a Kentucky Oaks upset.
