Gun right advocates in Texas and New Mexico gathered at their respective Capitols Saturday.
Rallies were held across the United States as part of a loosely organized campaign by gun rights advocates. The campaign began via social media.
According to KOB-TV a local organizers in Santa Fe, Josh Kennedy, says the group is against a proposed ban on assault-rifles. He also said the rally is attempting to show residents that gun owners aren't criminals.
A similar event was scheduled on the steps of the Capitol in Austin.
Among those scheduled to attend was first-term Rep. Steve Toth, a Republican from the Woodlands.
Toth previously introduced a bill seeking to ban any federal prohibition on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines on a state level.
People began confirming that they would attend the Austin event several days ago. Some attendees have been encouraged to bring their guns to the rally.
