JUAREZ, Mexico -

Juárez municipal officials confirmed August 2012 marked the fewest number of murders in Juarez in the past five years.

According to El Diario 34 people were murdered in August but the months-old remains of four people were also discovered. Juarez officials have not yet confirmed El Diario's report of 34 people murdered in August.

Juárez city manager Héctor Arcelús Pérez said that the administration began to see tangible changes in crime reduction after implementing "police sectorization.”

Pérez explained that “police sectorization” began with breaking the city into special “sectors” that police could cover more easily when split up into portions.

According to Pérez, there’s another phase of “police sectorization” yet to come. Pérez said the second phase will require the police to increase communication and ultimately form a trusting relationship with the people who live the community in order to sustain low crime rates.
