El Paso City Council voted five-to-three Tuesday to find a location in East El Paso for a new 12 field soccer complex if the 2012 quality of life bond passes in November.
City representatives Cortney Niland, Carl Robinson and Susie Byrd, all who represent parts of town other than the East Side, voted against having the soccer complex on the East Side.
Other sites considered included the current site of Cohen Stadium in Northeast El Paso and the old Asarco site just West of Downtown El Paso.
Dr. Michiel Noe said the question about designating where the complex would go came up in a recent meeting with East Side constituents.
"I wanted to have a discussion, commitments from people where the City was going to put it ... The constituents are asking, El Pasoans want to know, 'OK, if you're going to build this, where are we gonna put it?'"
According to City Parks and Recreation staff, a majority of the city's soccer fields are already in East El Paso, although the latest soccer complex was built in far West El Paso.
