1519: Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés enters Tenochtitlán and Aztec ruler Moctezuma welcomes him with a great celebration. However, excited by the lavish gifts of gold given to them by the Aztecs, Cortés soon decided to take Moctezuma as a hostage in his own palace and indirectly rule Tenochtitlán through him.
