Two teenagers have died within four days at separate parties in Northeast El Paso.
The latest victim, 19-year-old Erique Lewis, was shot in the torso at a house on the 3900 block of Thomason Monday evening. He was at the house when an argument broke out, leading to the shooting.
Erique's friends are trying to come to terms with his death. Michael Martinez, one of those friends, knew him most of his life, and today even the most trivial of memories is significant.
According to his friends, Erique was not the type to start a fight, and police say he wasn't even involved in the argument that led to his death.
One of his friends said, "He was a good guy, never had problems with nobody, walked around the neighborhood. He would just be in his own world."
This is a similar story from Friday, November 20, when Angel Garcia was stabbed to death, also in the Northeast, and also after an argument at a party.
Garcia's family says he was trying to stop a fight, but others say the suspect who stabbed him did it in self-defense.
These two deaths have residents in the area understandably concerned, while young friends are trying to cope with a such a big loss.
El Paso Police say their gang unit is also investigating the shooting death of Lewis, but have not named any suspects.
This is the Sun City's 12th murder of 2009.
