MONTANA VISTA -- Sheriff's deputies arrested two men who were allegedly stealing fuel from a tanker truck belonging to Bell Gas, a company out of Roswell, New Mexico.
John Montalvo, 59, of the 11600 block of Clear Lake Way in El Paso, Texas; and Antonio Barragan, 35, of the 800 block of Young John in Clint, Texas were charged with Theft of Property Over $50 and Under $500.
According to sheriff officials, deputies were dispatched to a gated parking lot in the 4600 block of Suwanee in reference to a suspicious vehicle. When they arrived at the scene, they noticed a red Toyota Tundra parked near the tanker trailer.
When deputies drove into the parking lot, a man near the tanker began to run away, sheriff officials said. The man was apprehended after a short foot pursuit and was later identified as Barragan, officials added.
Deputies detained the driver of the tanker, who was later identified as Montalvo. Officials said he was arrested after deputies found a hose running from the fuel tanker to two 80-gallon fuel drums located in the bed of the Toyota Tundra.
An investigation assisted by the Texas Comptrollers Office revealed Montalvo was siphoning and selling fuel from the company tanker without a valid permit or permission, officials said.
