EL PASO, Texas -- Defense attorneys for Fabian Hernandez called a former prison administrator to the stand Wednesday morning.
Hernandez was found guilty last week of shooting and killing his estranged wife and her boyfriend in 2006, and jurors are now preparing to decide Hernandez's sentence.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in the case.
Frank AuBuchon, who formerly worked at an east Texas prison, said based on Hernandez's crime, Hernandez would be put under administrative segregation, meaning he would not be housed with other prisoners.
Hernandez's lawyers said that the state would argue that Hernandez will be a danger to prison staff and other inmates if he was sentenced to life in prison.
Tuesday, Hernandez's lawyers questioned a corrections officer at the Dona Ana County prison where Hernandez was held. The officer said Hernandez mostly stayed out of trouble when he was serving time for a manslaughter charge in the early 90's.
