LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Las Cruces police arrested a man who allegedly argued with his brother over a handgun last week and was wanted on warrants in Las Cruces and Albuquerque.
Twenty-year-old Jaime Valdez was allegedly arguing with his brother over the gun on Oct. 29 when the gun discharged, Las Cruces police said.
The brothers allegedly fled in a Pontiac G6 sedan. Jaime Valdez's brother Marcos Valdez crashed the car on West Las Cruces Avenue. Marcos Valdez's 3-year-old son was in the backseat of the vehicle. Investigators said they also recovered a handgun from the vehicle.
Marcos Valdez was taken into custody but Jaime Valdez ran from officers, police said.
Police arrested Jaime Valdez just after 2 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a tip that he was staying at a home in the 5900 block of Peachtree Hills Road.
Jaime Valdez is also wanted by Albuquerque police for aggravated assault, robbery and kidnapping, according to Las Cruces police.
He is being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center on two warrants out of Albuquerque and one in Las Cruces. His total bond was set at $150,000.
