EL PASO, Texas -- Halloween used to be all about scary, but now some El Pasoans say now it's all about sexy.
"Sexy witch, sexy vampire, sexy pirate," said East El Pasoan Marianne Becerra. Becerra said she was shocked when she went to the store to buy a Halloween costume for her daughter Emily.
"My daughter is five. She doesn't have to be a sexy anything and I could not find a costume that was age appropriate."
Becerra opted for a homemade costume for her 5-year-old, but she also has a teenage daughter in high school.
"Sexy is the thing. It's disgusting!" she said.
In the Socorro ISD, the rule is that the girls put their hands to their side and where there fingertips meet their legs, if the skirt falls below that, it is acceptable. If it falls above that, it is deemed inappropriate for school.
"Anything the principal deems to be disruptive to the instructional process, we'll go ahead and ask them to change clothing," said Socorro ISD assistant superintendent Pat O'Neill.
O'Neill said consequences vary for violating the dress code. "Some schools allow students to stay in the office until the parent comes. Others put them in an in school suspension room until their parents arrive with a change of clothes."
A 15-year-old Bowie High School sophomore who was shopping for a costume Thursday said she was suspended last year for wearing a Playboy playmate costume to school.
But she said that is not going to stop her from dressing up as a sexy cop this year.
"If they send me home, they send me home," she said.
The manager of the Spirit Halloween store in East El Paso said the sexy costumes are the store's biggest money maker.
