Son arrested for allegedly shooting father with a shotgun

CHAPARRAL, New Mexico - Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 33-year-old man after he allegedly shot his father in the stomach during a dispute Monday night.

The shooting occurred in the 400 block of Paloma Blanca in Chaparral Monday night.

Detectives say the 50-year-old victim went to a neighbor’s house just after 9 p.m. claiming his son, Pedro Anthony Rivera, had shot him with a 12-gauge shotgun.

By the time deputies arrived on the scene, Rivera had fled in his vehicle.

Investigators located his car shortly afterward and were able to arrest  Rivera .

Rivera was taken to the Doña Ana County Detention Center where he is being held without bond, pending arraignment.

He is charged with one count of aggravated battery against a household member causing great bodily harm.

 The victim was taken to an El Paso hospital where he is in critical condition.
