Police said they responded to a call about a shooting shortly before 5 p.m. near the intersection of Yarbrough and Santa Maria Street.

At about the same time police say a patrol car arrived on the scene when the man collapsed on the officer's car.

The woman got off the car she was driving, holding a gun, and that's when the officer on the scene confronted the woman:

"The officer engaged her verbally, giving her the commands to drop the gun at that point the female that was armed with a gun, turned the gun on herself and expired at the scene," said Kiki Carrillo, El Paso Police spokesman.

Police told ABC-7 the man was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. The woman who was car-jacked was not hurt.
