EPPD: Two men facing Capital Murder charges for deadly Northeast stabbing

EL PASO, Texas - Police arrested and charged two men with Capital Murder for the killing of 21-year-old Erik Deshaun Bertrand.

Gang unit officers arrested 27-year-old Cesar Rogelio Gonzalez the morning of Thursday May 4, 2017.

The US Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrested 34-year-old Ruben Alvarado Thursday evening.

Bertrand was stabbed and killed near an apartment complex at 3334 Zion on May 2, 2017.

Police responded to a car crash with injuries just after 2 pm at the apartment complex.

Officers arrived to find Bertrand, the driver of the mid-size sedan, with a stab wound to his upper torso.

Bertrand was transported to University Medical Center, where he later died.

An investigation revealed the victim and two others had gone to the apartment complex to meet a group of people.

Police said the groups got into a fight and Bertrand was stabbed.

"The others involved in the altercation fled the scene," police said in a news release.

Bertrand crashed into another vehicle inside the apartment complex as he tried to drive away to seek help, police said.

Gonzalez is charged with Capital Murder and is being held under a $1-million bond.

Alvarado is charged with Capital Murder, Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. He is being held on bonds totaling more than $1-million.

This is the 10th murder of 2017, police said.
