Barmen Shooting: Suspected shooter identified; not involved in initial fight, police say

El PASO, Texas - The suspect arrested after allegedly shooting another man in the parking lot outside Barmen, a bar in West El Paso, was not involved in the initial fight that led to shots being fired.

Police charged Nickolas Scott Maxwell, 37, with Criminal Attempted Murder.

The shooting happened on the 4100 block of N. Mesa at 12:25 am Sunday, September 10, 2017.

Officers learned two groups of men were involved in a fight inside the bar, police said.

The men were escorted from the bar by employees and then resumed fighting in the parking lot, police said.

During the fight, 26-year-old Quintin Brown fired rounds from a gun into the sky, police said.

Maxwell, who police say was not involved in the fight, walked out of the bar, armed with a handgun, and shot Brown multiple times, police said.

Brown was transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries.

Maxwell was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $500,000 bond.
