Weekend Anchor / Reporter
Matt Dougherty joined the ABC-7 news team in 2012.
A journalist of all hats, Matt has worked as an anchor and reporter throughout the Gulf Coast and the state of Texas. His television career began in the Rio Grande Valley, another border area, where he worked as a reporter. Matt soon moved to Victoria, Texas, where he was the evening anchor, making Matt the youngest male primetime news anchor in the country. He also worked for a time as a reporter in Louisiana.
One of the most notable stories Matt has covered is an investigation into Houston's drug-addicted street prostitutes, for which he won an Emmy. Matt also covered hurricane damage in Louisiana and surveyed the destruction with President George W. Bush.
He says he is truly excited to be a part of the Borderland community.
"With so many social changes going on in our own backyard, it's hard not to step back and see that we're standing on the frontlines of history," Matt says. "I feel truly blessed to be here in El Paso, and be here now.
"Matt was born and raised in Houston. He is a graduate of the Jack Valenti School of Communications at the University of Houston.
