Josie is a local girl; she was born in El Paso,Texas and raised in Sunland Park, New Mexico. She graduated from Santa Teresa High School in 2009.
Josie is a recent graduate of New Mexico State University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degrees in Journalism & Mass Communications and Government with a minor in Spanish. Josie also attended Georgetown University, in Washington D.C, where she took courses on economics and politics.
While at NMSU, Josie was involved in KRWG News22, the award-winning, student-run newscast on campus. She was a reporter, anchor and producer for the show, which airs live on PBS.
Josie loves to travel and was fortunate to live in Washington, D.C. and New York City, where she did internships in both cities. Josie also completed several competitive journalism programs out of state, including the Capitol Broadcasting Company-University of North Carolina Diversity fellowship in Raleigh, North Carolina.
During her time in Washington, D.C, Josie participated in The Fund for American Studies' Institute on Political Journalism program. She took courses at Georgetown University and interned for “The McLaughlin Group,” the longest running political commentary show in the nation.
In the summer of 2013, Josie was one of four students selected to participate in the National Association of Hispanic Journalists-NBCUniversal summer fellowship. It was an opportunity of a lifetime! She worked for MSNBC at their headquarters in Rockefeller Center in New York City. Josie spent her time at MSNBC’s "The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell," where she worked closely with producers. The highlight of her fellowship was co-anchoring a short segment during one of the shows.
Although she loves news and politics, Josie also has a deep interest in the world of entertainment and fashion. During her spare time, she emcees entertainment events throughout the area.
Before becoming a reporter for KVIA's New Mexico Mobile Newsroom, Josie interned for the ABC-7 newsroom. She is grateful to now be a part of a team she respects and admires, and is excited to cover the area that has helped shape the woman she is today.
Josie currently lives in Las Cruces, where you’ll find her enjoying the local scene! She loves to spend to time with family and friends, cook, work out and travel.
