FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - A 72-year-old Aztec man has been hospitalized in critical condition after he was hit by a suspected drunk driver and then dragged about 200 feet under a pickup truck.

Police say Paul Hardy was taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center Wednesday.

Aztec police Sgt. Joseph Gonzales said the driver of the truck, 46-year-old Fannie Etcitty of Nageezi, had been drinking before the accident.

Police said witnesses had to yell to get Etcitty's attention before she would stop.

Gonzales said a man brought a forklift from nearby and lifted the front of the truck off Hardy before firefighters arrived. Authorities pulled him out from under the truck.

Gonzales said Hardy was conscious and speaking before paramedics took him to the hospital.

Police wouldn't release Etcitty's blood-alcohol level.
