MONTANA VISTA -- A tanker truck carrying liquefied propane rolled over near the Montana Vista community in far east El Paso County early Thursday morning.

According to El Paso County Sheriff's Office officials, the truck rolled over shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday morning near the intersection of Montana Ave. and Zaragoza.

Emergency crews report the driver of the truck, 44-year-old Ruben Rodela-Lopez, was not injured. Rodela-Lopez will be charged with Failure to Control Speed and was arrested at the scene because he had two outstanding traffic warrants.

Sheriff's deputies had to shut down traffic on Montana for hours as the site was cleared. East-bound traffic on Montana was re-routed back to Rich Beem and Loop 375. Westbound traffic was diverted back to Montana Vista to Ascension Road, which led to Horizon Blvd. in Horizon City.

A TX-DOT spokeswoman says the tanker was loaded with 92,000 gallons of propane and it took almost six hours to empty it and turn it right side up. Early Thursday morning, the tanker could not be turned over safely because it weighed about 80,000 lbs.

Officials with the Socorro Independent School District are working on re-routing school buses in and out of nearby schools.
