ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - An Albuquerque man has been sentenced to 30 1/2 years in prison for his role in a 2008 fatal shooting police say stemmed from a case of mistaken identity.
Jason Skaggs was sentenced Friday in state district court.
The 36-year-old Skaggs pleaded guilty in July to second-degree murder, criminal solicitation to commit murder, aggravated burglary with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary with a deadly weapon.
Police say co-defendant Clifton Bloomfield shot newlywed Scott Pierce when Pierce came to the aid of his wife. She had awoken to find Bloomfield in the home the couple had recently moved into.
Authorities say Bloomfield was looking for a prior resident with whom Skaggs had a dispute.
Bloomfield is serving a life sentence for Pierce's death.
