QUESTA, N.M. (AP) - Mourners will gather in Questa on Friday to bid farewell to a New Mexico National Guard soldier who died in Iraq from cardiac arrest last month.

Thirty-9-year-old Spc. Joseph Gallegos was pronounced dead Oct. 28 in Tallil, Iraq, while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. His death was unrelated to combat.

New Mexico National Guard spokesman Jamison Herrera says a rosary for Gallegos will be at 6 p.m. Friday and his funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Questa High School gymnasium.

Gallegos was a light-wheel vehicle mechanic with the 720th Transportation Company out of Las Vegas, N.M.

Gallegos served in the United States Navy and Army and recently re-enlisted with the New Mexico National Guard after a 5-year break in service.
