Arrest made in murder of Dallas art student

Associated Press - November 5, 2009 12:45 AM ET

DALLAS (AP) - Police have arrested a 26-year-old man and charged him with murder for the brutal slaying of a 20-year-old Dallas art student.

The Dallas Morning News reports Daniel Willyam was being held Wednesday at the Lew Sterrett Justice Center, with bail set at $2.5 million accused of killing Samantha Michelle Nance.

Dallas police discovered Nance's body at her apartment on Sept. 11 and said she had been stabbed multiple times the day before.

The arrest affidavit said Willyam's infatuation with his male roommate, 20-year-old Nathan Shuck, who was Nance's boyfriend, may have led him to kill Nance. Nance, Shuck and Willyam all attended the Art Institute of Dallas.

Nance's tearful mother, Cynthia, told reporters Wednesday that she hoped "this person gets what he deserves."

A jail official said he had no information on whether Willyam had an attorney.
