EL PASO -- A local choir singer submitted a CD of her work and it not only earned her a $10,000 scholarship, it also got her entire choir group an opportunity to perform on National Public Radio's 'From The Top.'

The 'Young Ladies Choir' performed at the Camino Real Hotel Sunday. The group held a bruch fundraiser to try to raise funds for a European tour next year.

Their director told ABC-7 performing for NPR was not only a chance to showcase local talent, but also a life-changing experience.

"For some of these girls, it's a life-changing event," said Yvonne Marmolejo, the director of the choir.

Choir member Natanya Washer won the 10,000 Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship given by NPR. "I sent in a CD as a separate audition to be on their show and they called me up and they said they would like for me to be on their show," said Washer. "But they wanted also for all the girls to perform with me."

The 'Young Ladies Choir' consists of 23 members, all between the ages of 13 and 18.
