EL PASO, Texas (AP) - A 29-year-old El Paso man has turned himself in to police after he was charged with murder in the death of his mother.

The body of 54-year-old Gloria Huerta Marmolejo (mahr-moh-LAY'-hoh) was found July 31 behind an elementary school in nearby Santa Rosa, N.M. Police say she'd been last seen alive six days before.

El Paso police say 29-year-old David Huerta Marmolejo lived with her in their El Paso home. The El Paso County Medical Examiner's Office determined that the mother died of strangulation.

Officer Chris Mears, the El Paso police spokesman, says family members escorted the son to police headquarters about 3:30 p.m. MDT Friday. Bond is set at $1 million.

Mears says Marmolejo had no attorney.
